Wondering on how you can give a proper massage to your dog without causing him any kind of harm? Worry not; we have all the answers for you! Massaging is no rocket science but at the same time, you need to be very careful of how you approach your dog and what you do. Begin with long continuous strokes from head to tail to make sure he is completely relaxed and lies down in a comfortable position.

Once Fido is at ease, it is safe to scratch behind his ears, pull his cheeks or gently rub your finger on the area in between his eyes. Back and forth movements along with low pressure circular strokes in these spots work perfectly well with most dogs. However if at any point of time you feel that your pooch gets irritated or is not liking a particular stroke, try not to repeat that again.

At the neck area, gently pick up the skin, roll it and rub carefully so as not to hurt your dog. Circular strokes near the shoulders are loved by most dogs since this is a spot they can’t reach easily themselves. After this, gradually proceed to the paws. Lightly squeeze his paw in your hand multiple times before you rub your finger between each toe. Use your thumb for circular movements on the back of his paw. This will relax the paw muscles and calm him down to a great extent.

If your dog shows signs of discomfort, anxiety or irritation at any point, it is advisable to stop right there and cuddle him to make him easy again.
